1. Definition of Industrial control system

Industrial Control Systems (ICS) is a business process Control system which is composed of various automatic Control components and process Control components that collect and Monitor real-time data to ensure the automatic operation, process Control and monitoring of Industrial infrastructure. Its core components include Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Programmable Logic Controller (PLC), Remote Terminal Unit (RTU), and Human Machine Interface(HMI) And interface technology to ensure that components communicate.

An SCADA control center is a communication network for long-term centralized monitoring of the site, including monitoring of alarms and processing of status data. Automated or operator driven monitoring commands can be pushed to remote station control devices, often referred to as field devices. Field equipment controls local operations such as opening and closing valves and circuit breakers, collects data from sensor systems, and monitors alarm conditions in the local environment.

DCS is integrated into a control architecture that contains supervisory level controls over multiple integrated subsystems responsible for controlling the details of the localization process. DCS is used to control industrial processes such as power generation, oil and gas refining, water and wastewater treatment, as well as chemical, food and automobile production.

PLC is a computer-based solid state equipment used to control industrial equipment and processes. PLC is the control system component used in the whole SCADA and DCS, they are usually the main component in the configuration of smaller control system used to provide regulatory control of discrete processes such as automobile assembly line and power plant sootblowers control. PLC is widely used in almost all industrial processes.

HMI is the display screen in front of the operator. After HMI and PLC are configured, PLC communication control can be achieved through HMI for the purpose of controlling terminal equipment.
