Classification and basic knowledge of liquid crystal display modules

Classification of LCD modules

The digital display liquid crystal module is a functional component composed of a segment liquid crystal display device and a dedicated integrated circuit, which can only display numbers and some identification symbols. Segment LCD devices are mostly used in portable and pocket-sized devices.

1. Counting module

This is a counting display unit assembled by a seven-segment liquid crystal display device with different digits, a decoding driver, or a counter. It has the functions of recording, processing and displaying numbers.

2. Metering module

The metering module is a module assembled with a multi-segment liquid crystal display device and an integrated circuit chip with decoding, driving, counting, and A/D conversion functions. Since the integrated circuit used has A/D conversion function, it can convert the input analog electric signal into digital quantity and display it. We know that any physical quantity, even chemical quantity (such as pH, etc.) can be converted into analog electricity, so as long as it is equipped with a certain sensor, this module can realize any quantity and display, which is very convenient to use.

The main parameters of the LCD module

1. Resolution

Resolution is a very important performance indicator. It refers to the number of dots that can be displayed in the horizontal and vertical directions on the screen (the lines and surfaces displayed on the screen are composed of dots). The higher the resolution, the more information can be contained in the same screen.

2. Contrast

The control ICs, filters and oriented films used in the manufacture of LCD panels are related to the contrast of the panel. For general users, a contrast ratio of 350:1 is sufficient, but in the professional field, such a contrast is not enough. Meet the needs of users.

3. Brightness

Liquid crystal is a substance between solid and liquid. It cannot emit light by itself and requires additional light sources. Therefore, the number of lamps is related to the brightness of the liquid crystal display.

4. Signal Response Time

Response time refers to the response speed of the liquid crystal display to the input signal, that is, the response time of the liquid crystal from dark to bright or from bright to dark, usually in milliseconds (ms).

5. Viewing Angle

After the backlight passes through the polarizer, liquid crystal and alignment layer, the output light has directivity. In other words, most of the light is emitted vertically from the screen, so when viewing the LCD from a larger angle, you cannot see the original color, or even see the entire white or all black.
